Welcome
Athanasios Andrikopoulos is a Professor in the field of “Topology and Quantitative Methods with Applications in Economic Theory and Computer Science” and Director of the “Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science” Laboratory in the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics at the University of Patras. He graduated and received his PhD from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Patras in 1983 and 1999, respectively. His main research interests are in topology and its applications in economic theory and computer science, including: (1) General Topology (Differential Topology, Geometric Topology, Combinatorial Topology, and Algebraic Topology), which is the area of theoretical mathematics that deals with fundamental set-theoretic definitions and constructions used in Theoretical Mathematics (Mathematical Analysis, Set Theory, Algebra, Probability Theory) and Computer Science; (2) The quantitative approach to problems arising in Theoretical Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, and Computer Science; and (3) Topological Data Analysis (TDA), a modern approach to extracting high-level geometric and topological features from complex data sets, with applications in computational topology, machine learning, and theoretical modeling. He has published over 60 articles (52 as a single author) in international scientific journals and presented 18 papers at global conferences. Some of his work (in Social Choice Welfare, Economic Theory Bulletin, Theory and Decision, Topology and its Applications) generalizes results from Aumann, Debreu, Arrow, Sen, von Neumann, Dushnik, Miller, Szpilrajn, Nagata, Smirnov, Császár, among others, and is referenced in seven significant books, such as Handbook of the History of General Topology, Analysis in Asymmetric Normed Spaces, Beyond Topology, A Probability Metrics Approach to Financial Risk Measures, Rationality and Operators, and others.
