Στο μάθημα διδάσκονται επιλεγμένα θέματα από την πρόσφατη βιβλιογραφία πάνω σε αλγορίθμους επικοινωνίας για παράλληλες υπολογιστικές μηχανές και δίκτυα ευρείας περιοχής. Εξετάζονται προβλήματα ταξινόμησης σε πλέγματα επεξεργαστών, τεχνικές δρομολόγησης (store-and-forward, wormhole, hot potatoe) σε πλέγματα επεξεργαστών και δίκτυα υπερκύβου, καθώς και προβλήματα στατικής και δυναμικής κατανομής εύρους ζώνης σε δίκτυα υψηλών επιδόσεων (πχ. οπτικά δίκτυα με δενδρική τοπολογία και δίκτυα τεχνολογίας ΑΤΜ).
