Ceremony for the honorary Doctorate award to Prof. Yousef Saad

On June 4 our Department had the distinct honor to welcome Professor Yousef Saad and celebrate his being awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa (Επίτιμος Διδάκτωρ) by the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics (CEID) of the University of Patras.
The ceremony was particularly special. In addition to faculty and students of the University, the audience included distinguished attendees from several Greek universities, as well as Greek and international guests from abroad.
The program opened with welcoming remarks from the Rector, Prof. Christos Bouras; the Dean of the School of Engineering, Prof. George Lampeas; and the Chair of CEID, Prof. Christos Kaklamanis. This was followed by a presentation by CEID Prof. Kostas Berberidis, who highlighted Professor Saad’s scientific achievements and his longstanding ties with CEID faculty, students, and alumni.
Following the conferral of the honorary doctorate, Professor Saad delivered an inspiring and highly personal lecture entitled “A Journey through Mathematics and Computing: From Algiers to Minnesota.”
The ceremony provided a fitting opportunity to celebrate a distinguished scientific career and the profound impact Yousef Saad has had on generations of researchers, including many members and alumni of CEID.
